Capital Readiness Program

We’re excited to offer a 16-week course designed to give our Refinery graduates the tools they need to succeed financially. With 40 hours of class time and personalized coaching opportunities, participants dive into 20 essential topics, from budgeting and understanding credit scores to learning effective accounting methods. Upon completing the course, graduates are guaranteed access to a Small Business Administration loan through Community Development Resources and can apply for a zero-interest, crowdsourced KIVA loan.

Classes are offered twice a year. This program is possible through partnerships with local experts, such as Brittany Planos of Union Bank & Trust, Jennifer Dougherty of West Gate Bank, and Christine Weeks of Eleanor Creative.

Lincoln is proud to be the first city in Nebraska to become a KIVA hub, thanks to Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird’s leadership and the support of the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce. KIVA’s interest-free loans provide crucial funding to underrepresented entrepreneurs, giving them the opportunity to grow their businesses without the pressure of high interest rates. This initiative fosters economic inclusion, empowers local business owners, and strengthens Lincoln’s diverse business community.
